Who you gonna call? On June 8, 1984, it was the Ghostbusters quartet if you were looking for a blockbuster movie. The iconic film — which starred actors Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson — made millions across the world fall in love with the team of four NYC ghost hunters who brought both fears and fantasies to life.
The movie has become such a classic that the date of its release is honored every year as #GhostbustersDay on Twitter. Fans of the film share their favorite scenes, quotes and moments from the legendary comedy, which is so timeless that new audiences today still love it.
Since the original film premiered, Ghostbusters had a sequel titled Ghostbusters II, which came out in 1989. While we’re at it, don’t forget the 2016 remake featuring an all-female cast — including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Sadly, that film didn’t receive a warm reception from either audiences or critics.
Fans of the original Ghostbusters squad are in for a real treat, as the original cast is teaming up for 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The film is being directed by Jason Reitman, who is the son of the original movie’s director Ivan Reitman. Bill’s love interest Sigourney Weaver is reprising her role as Dana Barrett, and wisecracking receptionist from the original film Annie Potts will be back as Janine Melnitz.
The plot to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is billed as “When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind,” according to imdb.com.
In addition to the original Ghostbusters cast — minus the late Harold Ramis — the new film will also star Carrie Coon as the mom, Callie, with Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard as her son Trevor, and Mckenna Grace as her daughter Phoebe. Ghostbusters: Afterlife hits theaters on November 10, 2021.
Considering it’s been more than 30 years since the original Ghostbusters debut, let’s take a look at what the cast has been up to!
